Kit Tested: H11 – 6000k w/ Volt Canbus Series Ballast

Kit includes:

2 – 35w Digital ballasts
1 – Pair of H11 HIDExtra.com bulbs
1 – Generic Install Instructions
1 – Hardware kit w/ zip ties

More and more, I am starting to like the old style (larger) ballasts, better than the slim ballasts.  Yes, they are usually harder to mount to the car, but in my experience they provide a more stable light, quicker ignition time, and a longer life.  Here is a look at the difference:

Overall, the kit performed very well.  Everything that I needed for the install was included… again, I would still like someone to add self tapping sheet metal screws into their ballast mounting hardware.  It would make life so much easier for mounting the ballast.  I mean really, who drills a hole and tries to bolt the ballast to the fender well?  Anyways, it didn’t really matter for this install, because the owner of the vehicle insisted that I do not drill into his car.  =/

As I mentioned in my opening statement, I really like the larger style ballasts better than the slim ballasts.  I know HID technology is advancing, but I still think there is something to be said for a thick, sturdy, full of metal and good stuff ballast.  If there are any comparisons you’d like me to make, let me know in the comments.

I didn’t take a picture of the components, but I did try something new… a Vine video.  This was a good test, and I know how I’m going to make it better in the future…

What you are seeing is the before and after LUX meter readout.  With the HIDExtra.com HID kit, we saw a 65% increase in light output over the stock halogen light bulb.

    Hi,

This is a great install how to and brief review. I was wondering if you could comment on the cutoff line this kit creates and any thoughts on the glare if there is any on this kit. I have a MY14 WRX and was really interested in picking up this kit. Just don’t want to blind oncoming traffic if I were to install this into the OEM halogen headlamps.

    Thanks!
