HID Kits for Cars

HID kits for cars are popular not only for their look (which is pretty hot) but also for safety reasons. HID (high intensity discharge) can brighten up the road about 300% more than traditional halogen lights can. They are also much longer lasting and they provide a very cool, crisp  looking light pattern.

Choosing the right kit comes down to two factors, personal choice and best option. Your personal choice does play a role in which kit is right for you, because you may have had a particularly good experience in the past, or heard good things, from a friend, about a specific hid kit. You can also choose from different colors and different installation applications, such as single bean, bi-halogen, and bi-xenon. But, of course you want to choose from one of the best options that are reliable, with great reviews, and a proven customer service history.

    The only one of the vendors worth shopping at is The Retrofit Source.The others are the cheap eBay crap & others that offer DC ballasts,not AC-which are better.Cheap is cheap & you get what you pay for.Gtr Lighting & Morimoto are my favorites.

      Hi John,

      I have a 2012 Dodge Challenger and got a lot of work done to my car last year. But the shop is in Atlanta and I’m in Miami. I currently have the Morimoto. These shops charging $250 for the Kensun install. SMH! So they’ll probably charge double for the Morimoto. Recommendation?

        Melinda – They shouldn’t charge more, just because of the HID manufacturer. If you are doing a retrofit with projectors, that’s a different story. If it’s just an HID kit install, you shouldn’t be paying more than $100 for the install on a Challenger. It’s an H13 bi-xenon kit and installation could be done from the top. I don’t work with any shops in particular in Miami, so I don’t have a personal recommendation for you.

        Hope that helps

    Hello Everyone, I hope all is well with you! I hate to burst your bubble on The Retrofit Source…..But I bought a Morimoto Elite kit & XB35 Bulbs w/ a five year warranty for $170.00 & it did work great, BUT… 2 years into use w/not even 800 hrs use, 1 ballast is bad & TRS will NOT return my calls or e-mails about warranty, even though they know that the 2013 ballasts had an issue that they claim on their website is now corrected. TRS even states that both ballasts & bulbs should be replaced, YET, I cannot get a single call about this warranty issue. I own an auto repair shop & was referring my customers to them for HID Kits, but now I cannot in good faith based on my personal experience. CUSTOMER SERVICE after the sale is what makes a company & so far there is no service after the sale…….TOO BAD for me, I guess

      You can always contact them online pretending to be a customer potentially wanting to buy Hid systems from them after you have them answer a few questions specifically about the Hid product they are selling and specifically about their Hid system product warranty; make sure to get their full name naturally of course; and then drop the act to explain to them you are in fact calling them specifically about having Retrofit Source honor their Hid product warranty that they just finished explaining and going over with you in detail; they would at that point not have any choice but to honor their product warranty claims; you could also mention you have taken the liberties to record the telephone conversation via the wonderful magic of voip phone option to further give you the needed leverage if needed should they in fact choose not to stand behind the product that they just finished promising to in fact stand behind without question and/or limitation.

      It’s true on here online and in TRS forums they tell one story on how they take care of customers but when one calls and uses internet mail to TRS its truly a tale of two cities there is no accountability; I even went online and found stories of customer service issues and concerns; lack of accountability when it comes to servicing the supposed Morimoto Elite Kit & XB35 Bulbs with a five year warranty; that is just morally wrong and unethical to promise one thing and then post sale to not actually stand up and support the product technically under that same product; bottom line that is called “bait and switch”; write a letter of complaint and post it on the internet for all to see; to serve as a marker buoy to “stay away” from “The Retrograde Source” the one with a “less than sterling” and highly tarnished and “lackluster” Retrograde Reputation; thanks but I will be bypassing “The Retrograde Source” as a potential vendor and seller; thanks but no thanks!

    Here is the update on TRS……After further communication,They did in fact warranty my HID Kit. TRS Said that because of the rush during the holidays they got behind & they did apologize for taking so long to get to me. But, they did contact me & resolved my issues to the T. TRS even went above & beyond to satisfy my concerns. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt because in today’s fast paced business world, unfortunately, sometimes things fall through the cracks. In reality I have to give them 5 stars because they did stand behind their products & did so with a great attitude to boot. Thanx Retrofit Source for coming through !!!!!!

      Great to hear Dave the good news; that The Retrograde Source finally came to their rationally ethical and moral compass “good business senses” finally after all; that they did finally recognize the customer service contractual obligation provided for in its Morimoto Elite kit & XB35 Bulbs w/ a five year product warranty;

      now one has to recognize Hid product technology is decidedly an imperfect technology it would seem; even if one should happen to buy one with a perfect proven AC ballast design with an advanced DSP Asic chipset ballast; unfortunately the all to importantly critical and important capacitors that are responsible for generating the 23kv to 25kv initial starting Hid Arc can go seriously haywire and malfunction; that and the critical onboard electronics controller that is responsible for both decreasing both the electrical resistance as well as the applied ac voltage required to maintain the desired electrical plasma arc across the Hid’s two electrodes in an argon-xenon gas mixture with the appropriate mix of proper metal halide salts being vaporized efficiently;

      fortunately in your case Dave the Retrofit Source came to your rescue this time and hopefully for yet another three remaining years left in your Morimoto Elite kit & XB35 Bulbs five year product warranty hopefully without any further prodding and/or future excuses “up and down” the chain of command at “The Retrofit Source”; it always pays to keep the customer service department “on its toes” and to always hold them accountable to the business promises its made in order to sell its product “no matter what”; their truly is no such thing as a “free lunch”; then by golly if the loyal paying customer has in fact paid a “price product premium” in order to get a promised “five year product warranty”; then they had better “step up” and “stand by” the product that they originally sold to them even with any promised post purchase product support!

    I have bought a kensun kit for my 2015 Yukon. It was good at first but has gotten quite unreliable. Occasionally both work, but usually neither or only one do… they also flicker all too often.
